Graduate Hydraulic Modeller / Engineer
Location: Havant, Hampshire (Hybrid working available)
Salary: £29,000 (reviewed after 3 months)

As a Graduate Hydraulic Modeller at HydroCo, you’ll help design, analyse, and improve clean water networks—supporting major utilities to reduce leakage, optimise performance, and plan future infrastructure.

About HydroCo
HydroCo Limited is a UK-based specialist consultancy focused on clean water network modelling. We work with major water companies to build, calibrate, and maintain hydraulic models that inform operational and investment decisions.
As a smaller, highly experienced team, we offer close mentorship, early responsibility, and the opportunity to work on meaningful projects from day one.
The Role
You’ll work as part of a project team supporting the development and application of hydraulic models for water distribution systems. Your time will be split between office-based analysis (approx. 85%) and fieldwork (approx. 15%), depending on project needs.
What you’ll be doing
In the office:
- Use models to investigate and solve real-world challenges, including:
- Pressure management
- Network performance issues
- Developer enquiries
- Pump optimisation and critical pipe analysis
- Build and develop hydraulic models of water networks using industry software
- Process and analyse field data to create accurate digital representations of systems
- Support model calibration and validation activities
- Produce clear, professional technical reports and visual outputs
In the field:
- Install and retrieve data logging equipment (e.g. pressure loggers)
- Visit sites including pumping stations and reservoirs
- Work as part of a small team to collect essential network data
Travel across the UK, with occasional overnight stays where required
What we’re looking for:
We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual (graduate level or equivalent) who is keen to build a career in the water industry and develop strong technical expertise.
Essential:
- Degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/MEng) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geography, Mathematics, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to produce well-structured technical reports
- Willingness to work outdoors and travel for fieldwork
- Full UK driving licence (manual) (Or the ability to travel to site locations as required)
- Applicants must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role
Desirable (not essential):
- Understanding of hydraulics or water networks
- Experience with hydraulic modelling software (e.g. InfoWorks WS Pro, SynerGi, EPANET, InfoWater)
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, MapInfo)
- Basic programming knowledge (e.g. SQL, Ruby)
- Previous experience in the water industry
